Hugh Jackman In Talks To Play Jean Valjean In Tom Hooper's Les Miserables![]()
When Hugh Jackman first broke out in Hollywood as Wolverine in Bryan Singer's X-Men movies, American audiences perceived him as a burly, hyper-masculine tough guy. Then he won a Tony for his Broadway performance in The Boy from Oz. The truth is that Jackman is actually an incredibly talented song-and-dance man, but hasn't really gotten a chance to show off that side of his talent in the movies just yet. Tom Hooper will help correct that problem.
Variety reports that Jackman has entered talks to star in the Oscar winning director's adaptation of Les Miserables. Unlike the 1998 version, which starred Liam Neeson, Geoffrey Rush, and Uma Thurman, this one will be a musical. While the article doesn't specify which of the two leads Jackman will play - either hero Jean Valjean or police inspector Javert - it has been pointed out that Valjean is a tenor (same as Jackman) while Javert is baritone. While I'll admit to not being a big musical fan, I do like to see an actor explore his or her range and I'm happy to see Jackman getting his opportunity. While I've never seen him in a play, I do remember when he hosted the 81st Academy Awards and was pretty damn impressed. To remind yourself just how talented Jackman is, check out the video below. |
