Jack Black is getting into indie films. Focus Features has just picked up his next project, a movie for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry called Be Kind Rewind.

The film casts Jack as a man accidentally magnetized while trying to sabotage a power plant. He walks into the video store where his best friend works and erases every video tape in the shop. To save the store, Jack and his buddy film themselves re-enacting every movie Jack that the store’s single customer, an elderly woman, rents. Why they don’t care any DVDs and how the store survives with only one customer are questions that knowing Gondry, will probably be ignored in favor of abstract oddity.

The premise sounds like a lot like an incredibly elaborate excuse to have Jack Black re-enact famous movie scenes. If you’re going to do that, Jack’s probably the man to do it.

You can see Jack Black wearing stretchy pants in theaters this summer for Nacho Libre. A little later this year he’ll star in the greatest film in the world about the greatest band in the world, Tenacious D: In the Pick of Destiny. Hail Satan.
