Japanese Iron Man 3 Trailer Connects Directly To The Avengers
Why are Japanese trailers for upcoming blockbusters so much cooler than the domestic ones? First, the Star Trek Into Darkness clip virtually reveals the use of Khan in J.J. Abrams’ sequel. (Or does it?). And now the Japanese cut of the Iron Man 3 tease boasts a bit more footage and a better look at the tumbling Malibu mansion. See for yourself:
This clip, while short, does something that the first U.S. Iron Man 3 trailer didn’t do (but what was vital to the Comic-Con footage shown in San Diego) – and that is it connects the dots to the actions in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. In the SDCC clips, there’s a funny but poignant conversation between Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau (playing Happy Hogan) about the devastation left by the Avengers in New York City. Shane Black’s Iron Man sequel has the distinct pleasure of being the first post-Avengers Marvel movie, and so it will have to deal with the repercussions of that finale. Sort of. In some way, at least.
This clip does that, even pulling in Avengers footage. From what we are hearing, the actions in Whedon’s movie deeply affect Tony Stark. It could lead to a darker mood for Iron Man 3, though we’ve been promised it’s not a dark movie. Either way, Iron Man 3 kicks off both the summer season of 2013 and Marvel’s vaunted “Phase Two” of films. I think we’re all excited about seeing what Black and RDJ have cooked up, and this clip helps keep the movie on the radar.
