Knights Of Badassdom Starts The Countdown To Release With Announcement Video
Huzzah! For everyone who has shown godly amounts of tempered patience while waiting for Joe Lynchís Knights of Badassdom to get a release date, the above announcement video is the first step towards celebrations of a massive scale. Will the joy be as boundless as star Peter Dinklageís talent, or merely as big as a full-scale LARP experience? One thingís for sure: youíd better wear some protection when heading out to theaters to catch this one, and Iím not talking about condoms.
Itís been a long and delay-filled road since Lynch wrapped production on the raunchy fantasy adventure back in 2010, as it failed to find a proper distributor until Entertainment One acquired the film in July to rousing cheers of, "Itís about time!" Though the clip, courtesy of the filmís official website, doesnít introduce much new material, itís still filled with enough guitar riffs, vengeful sneers and mighty roars to justify the anticipation that this fringe comedy has earned.
Weíre introduced to the titular badassery of Dinklageís Hung, Ryan Kwantenís Joe, Summer Glauís Gwen and Steve Zahnís Eric; theyíre part of a team of live action role-players (LARPers) who accidentally find themselves on the opposite end of genuine danger once a faux wizard casts a legitimate spell that unleashes a demon with a hunger for blood and souls. It is going to be amazing to watch these characters change from nerdy fanatics to certifiable heroes as they use their skills for more than just personal pride. Even though itís the first script from Matt Wall and Kevin Dreyfuss, the subject matter would be ripe for cult fandom even if it didnít already look so great.
The stellar cast is rounded out by Joshua Malina (Scandal), Danny Pudi (Community), Margarita Levieva (Revenge), W. Earl Brown (Deadwood) and Jimmi Simpson, who doesnít do nearly enough comedy outside of his hilariously uncomfortable role on FXís Itís Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Thy wait is over! Knights of Badassdom hits theaters on January 21, with a VOD release coming just a few weeks later on February 11. After relishing the trailer below, relive the 2011 Comic Con panel that played a good part in developing such a rabid fanbase.
