Machete May Still Ride

By Josh Tyler: 2009-01-28 01:05:36
Machete May Still Ride It was way back in March of 2007 that we were one of the first to tell you of Robert Rodriguez’s plans to make Machete, a spinoff from his Grindhouse collaboration with Tarantino, based on the fake trailer of the same name. Then Grindhouse flopped, the Weinstein Company seemed to be blaming Rodriguez for everything, and the prospects of getting something as cool as Machete done seemed to fade.

But let’s face it, it’s not like the Weinstein Company has anything better going on, and even if they did the company seems to have no idea how to get anyone to see it. They’ve produced flop after flop, so why not throw something crazy like Machete at the wall and see if it’ll stick? The guys over at Bloody-Disgusting say they’ve been hearing rumors which indicate that this is just what they may do. What’s still not known is whether this will be a theatrical feature or a direct-to-dvd release. Rodriguez’s original plan was to drop it straight on dvd, but who knows what’s happened in the interim. Grindhouse was the kind of movie which is only really fun in a movie theater and I have the feeling that something like Machete would be much the same.

So what was this Machete thing again? The fake trailer attached to Grindhouse featured Danny Trejo as a heavily-armed, knife wielding wacko out for revenge. “They just fucked with the wrong Mexican.” Watch the whole, glorious trailer all over again below.

Warning: this thing is definitely NSFW or anyone under the age of 18.
