McG Teams Up With McC

He hasn’t made a movie since Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, but McG isn’t gone. He’s returning to filmmaking by working with Matthew McConaughey.

The Hollywood Reporter says that America’s number one Texas Longhorns fan will star in a yet to be titled college football movie for the one-named director. McG’s movie will be based on a real life event in which most of the Marshall College football team of West Virginia was killed in a plane crash in the seventies. Watching a football team go splat would make for a rather short movie, so the film starts after the team’s death when the surviving members of the team try to pick up the pieces and go on anyway, led by a determined coach named Jack Lengyel. Matt M. will play the determined coach, since he’s a little old to pull off determined college quarterback.

Matthew McConaughey’s obsessive college football fandom is legendary, so it’s no surprise to see him involved in this sort of project. McG on the other hand seems a little out of his element doing anything that doesn’t involve loud music, bad over-the-top stunts, and heavy-duty slow motion. Maybe he can mix in a motorcycle jump with the football game. Can the players run through flames?

McC’s team up with McG is still a ways off, the untitled movie is still in pre-production. The next place you can see McC is in the upcoming Sarah Jessica Parker romantic comedy Failure To Launch, in which McC re-enacts where he’d probably be if he hadn’t stumbled into acting and being rich: on the pipe and living at home with his parents.
