You had to know this would happen. It is officially no longer cool to make fun of Michael Jackson. EW reports that they’ve already cut a scene from the upcoming Bruno movie in which Sacha Baron Cohen interviews LaToya Jackson and, predictably makes fun of both her and her brother. The scene was removed, frantically, just before the film's Los Angeles premiere last night.
The now missing moment, allegedly features LaToya Jackson sitting on Mexican workers who bend over to serve as chairs. At some point Bruno steals her cell phone so he can copy down Michael’s phone number. Now you’ll never see it, but maybe that's no loss. It doesn’t sound all that funny.
It’s unusual for last minute cuts to be made to a major Hollywood film so close to release. Bruno’s release happens on July 10th. Making cuts to remove offensive content does however, seem to be something of a habit for Bruno. Where Borat stomped oblivious and indifferent on to screen, oblivious to who he might offend, so far it seems like Bruno’s going out of his way not to make anyone mad. First there were those alleged reshoots made to the film to placate gay activists, now they’re rumored to be making cuts to soothe sensitive Michael Jackson fans. For better or worse, Bruno you’re no Borat.
