Fox Atomic's Revenge of the Nerds remake has run into a snag. Well if you can call completely shutting down production a snag.
Variety says they've been kicked off the campus of Emory University in Atlanta, the college where more than a third of the film was supposed to be shot. Apparently Emory officials had never actually seen a Revenge of the Nerds movie and were shocked when they discovered how raunchy the movie would be. Not a great research department at Emory. Don't they have an A/V club or something?
Now you'd think that Fox would simply find somewhere else to shoot the movie. There's no shortage of universities, and the ones without football programs are usually so desperate for cash they're happy to prostitute themselves for a hefty donation. But instead of doing that, the entire movie has simply been shut down.
Yeah, that makes sense.
Fox Atomic's reps say it's on hiatus, though they still plan to get it made and hopefully get it released by August of next year. Why they aren't simply moving on to shoot the other two-thirds of the movie not being shot at Emory while looking for a replacement is anyone's guess. It almost sounds like someone was looking for an excuse, any excuse to foil the nerds' revenge.
