Ninja looks like a throwback to the low-budget, martial arts movies of the late 80s and early 90s. It could easily be one of the movies Beverly Hills Ninja was spoofing. That’s not a knock on it, we could do with a little more of that style of filmmaking. Where’s the modern day Roger Cormans? Why not a return to the days of American Ninja? Not everything has to be Hollywood glossy. Not every movie needs excessive lens flairs.
It stars a frequently shirtless Scott Adkins, as Casey, a westerner studying Ninjutsu in Japan. He’s sent by his Sensei to New York, where he’ll protect legendary weapons from a host of bad guys. See? It’s Beverly Hills Ninja. The movie’s first trailer has arrived, and it’s flat out, pretty cool. Especially if you have a hankering for late 80s martial arts flicks. Take a look:
