Peggy Carter Kicks Some Ass In Clip From The New Marvel One Shot

With all of the big news coming out of San Diego Comic-Con this weekend about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we can't forget that Shane Black's Iron Man 3 is coming out on Blu-ray and DVD in September - and with it comes a brand new Marvel One Shot. Titled simply Agent Carter, the new short film centers on the wonderful Peggy Carter, played by Captain America: The First Avenger's Hayley Atwell, and shows her getting the chance to do a little bit of ass-kicking. We'll still have to wait a couple months until we get to see the full thing, but luckily today we are getting a cool preview in the form of a clip.

Directed by Louis D’Esposito, who also made Marvel One Shot: Item 47 and is the Marvel Studios Co-President, the new film picks up where the first Captain America movie left off and finds the heroine stuck working for a sexist boss named Agent Flynn (played by Bradley Whitford). She gets her chance to shine, however, when she is put on the path of the enigmatic "Zodiac" key and goes on a solo mission. Dominic Cooper is also reprising his role as Howard Stark in the movie.

We actually first heard about this Marvel One Shot back in April when Atwell let the news slip out, but it looks pretty damn cool. We've certainly see an interesting mix of shorts from the studio, from the Agent Coulson-centric The Consultant, and A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Thor's Hammer to the aforementioned Item 47, but this one looks like it could be the best one yet. Fortunately, it's also been confirmed that Atwell will have a role in the upcoming Captain America: The Winter Solider, so we look forward to seeing her slip back into character once again in 2014.

While Peggy was certainly a kicking ass and taking names in Captain America: The First Avenger as well, it's interesting that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is starting to see an increase in the number of badass female characters. Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) got to throw on the suit in Iron Man 3, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) has a key role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy features both the space assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and the mercenary Nebula (Karen Gillan), and we know that The Avengers: Age of Ultron will include the powerful Scarlet Witch. Could this perhaps be part of the influence that Joss Whedon has been having over at Marvel?

Marvel One Shot: Agent Carter will be available on certain releases of Iron Man 3 and will be arriving in stores on September 24th. You can check out the full release specs below.
