The Possession is one of two 2012 horror films featuring unknown forces taking over the wills of children, the other being Sinister. The Possession, however, is the only flick that had The Evil Dead’s Sam Raimi to back it up as a producer, which should be a nice touch on the DVD box. Speaking of which, The Possession will hit Blu-ray, DVD, digital download, and On Demand on January 15.

The flick stars Magic City’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan and The Closer’s Kyra Sedgewick as the parents of a little girl, played by The Firm’s Natasha Calis, who becomes obsessed with a creepy box that ends up having major ramifications for the girl and her family. While I appreciate Jeffrey Dean Morgan getting more prominent roles, Ole Bornedal’s flick as a whole didn’t always make the best of its mythology or its scary moments. Still, I’m not a huge horror buff, so if you did like the flick it could be one to purchase, or at least take a gander at On Demand.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment’s release of The Possession won’t come chock full of bonus features, but both Blu-ray and DVD copies will come with two separate audio commentaries, and one extended featurette that will take a look into the origins of the dibbuk box and other mythology that appears in the film. Blu-ray copies will retail for $39.99 and DVD copies will run more cheaply at $29.95. You can check out the full list of bonus features, below.
