Hollywood has poked fun of Wedding Crashers and taken audiences on a Honeymoon In Vegas. It was only a matter of time before screenwriters tried their best to make divorce funny.

Indian director S.V. Krishna Reddy prepares to make his U.S. directorial debut with the ensemble comedy Divorce Invitation, and so far, he has recruited top-tier supporting players for his key roles. Lainie Kazan, Elliott Gould, Richard Kind, Ian Alda, Keith Robinson, and Andrea Bowen have been added to a cast that already included Jonathan Bennett, Jamie Lynn Sigler and Nadia Bjorlin. Not exactly the cast of Soderbergh’s Contagion, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t talent to be found in the bunch.

Now we’ll be curious to see where Reddy goes with the premise, which centers on a man named Mike Christian who runs into his one-time sweetheart, Alex, and grows convinced that she is his soul mate. The problem? Mike’s already married, and his current wife made him sign an iron-clad pre-nup.

If Divorce had one A-lister on which it could hang its hat, I’d be more enthused. Right now, Kazan and Gould have to be the biggest names in the cast, though they were last marquee talents in the 1970s and ‘80s. Maybe Reddy can turn this into a Bollywood musical? For the time being, Reddy will be working from a script by Krishna Reddy, Bala Rajasekharuni, and Robert Naturman. According to a release we received, shooting will commence later this month in Los Angeles.
