Steve Martin is more than just a snarky comedian. He wrote a bestselling novella called Shopgirl that Touchstone Pictures has recently turned into a movie. We've got the official trailer for the upcoming flick, courtesy of Movieweb.

Shopgirl is a romantic movie about a young lady named Mirabelle (Claire Danes) working at the glove counter of a Beverly Hills department store. She lives a fairly quiet life, until wealthy elder Ray Porter (Steve Martin) shows up, showering her with affection and bundles of dough. The relationship is passionate, probably aided by Viagra, but she questions how long it will last. When she meets a musician her own age (Jason Schwartzman), she has to choose which man is better suited for her. Will she choose Rock n' Roll or senior citizen discounts?

The trailer looks okay, although it's a bit tiring watching Claire Danes play the 'sullen girl'. Woe is me, she has 2 guys who want to be with her-- what ever will she do? But supposedly the book is excellent, so I will reserve my judgement until I see the movie. Just this once.
