Sundance: Fox Searchlight Buys Joshua

The Sundance film I’m most interested in is Joshua, though to be fair it’s only because they named it after me. The movie stars Sam Rockwell, Vera Farmiga, Celia Weston, Dallas Roberts, Michael McKean, and Jacob Kogan and it’s the latest film bought up by a mini major for future release in theaters.

Fox Searchlight announced today that they bought the worldwide distribution rights to Joshua shortly after it's premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday. It’s a psychological thriller about a pair of perfect Manhattan parents (Rockwell and Farmiga) in a perfect Manhattan apartment. But their lives begin to fall apart after the birth of their second child, a daughter named Lilly. When they bring Lilly home, a dark side of their oldest son Joshua starts to reveal itself. Yep, it’s another creepy devil child flick. You can tell he’s evil because he has a perfect part. Only Satan could get a part that perfect.

The film was co-written and directed by one of my fellow Texans and a former journalist George Ratliff. He’s directed three other low-budget films, all of them horror movies in one way or another.
