Thor Replaces Spider-Man 4

On Tuesday we learned that Spider-Man 4 was being abandoning its proposed May 6, 2011 release date because quite simply, they still have no damn idea what they’re doing. That leaves a big superhero hole in May and Paramount Pictures is more than happy to fill it.

Marvel Comics’ superhero god of thunder has stepped in to take Spidey’s place. Thor will now be released on that date instead. Since May 2011 is still nearly a year and a half away, it’s hard to say who the hammer-wielding superhero will have to compete with at the box office. The Kenneth Branagh direct movie's only competition right now is the just announced Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, slated for a May 20 release. But unlike Pirates 4, Thor doesn’t have a massive, built in movie going following which guarantees a huge take. It’s entirely possible that some other movie might slip in to try and challenge it.
