Tom Hardy Being Eyed For Elton John Biopic?
In recent years we've seen great examples of casting in musical biopics, from Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles in Ray to Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash in Walk The Line. But while Tom Hardy is a truly gifted actor who can absolutely melt into any role he plays and would be a positive presence for any production, the idea of having him play Elton John in a movie about the singer's life is still a strange one.
Strangeness aside, that's the latest casting rumor currently surrounding Rocketman, the musical biopic that has been in development for a couple of years now. The project got a big push earlier this year when it was announced that filmmaker Michael Gracey had been hired to helm the project, but now HitFix has apparently gotten word from a source that the production is interested in having the Dark Knight Rises star play the lead role. As of now a formal offer hasn't been made, and there has been no word on Hardy's interest level, but it's an interesting situation all the same.
As one of Hollywood's most popular rising stars, Hardy has a full slate of films coming out soon. While he will actually be away from the silver screen for the rest of 2013, next year will include the long-awaited Mad Max: Fury Road (which will see him stepping into the shoes of Mel Gibson's classic post-apocalyptic hero), Dennis Lehane's Animal Rescue (which just recently wrapped production), and the Soviet Union-set thriller Child 44 (which is currently shooting).
