Will Ferrell And Zach Galifianakis Get Physical And Silly In First Trailer For The Campaign

This year's Presidential election promises to be grueling and irritating pretty much no matter who you're rooting for, but it's also pitted between two men who are pretty good at behaving as grown-ups. So while Presidential politics become both disappointingly grown-up but also annoying, what we really need is for Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis to step in and provide us some politics conducted with the level of childishness we usually expect.

Enter The Campaign, the new comedy coming at the tail end of summer on August 10. The first full trailer for the movie has debuted at Apple, and you can watch it there in HD or embedded below.

Both Ferrell and Galifianakis seem to be stepping into slightly varied versions of characters they've played before, Ferrell as the smooth Southern politician who's not all that different from his George W. Bush, and Galifianakis as the dim, mustached redneck not all that different from his fake twin brother, Seth. But the political twist seems to add a lot of layers for both actors, especially since Ferrell seems to be playing more of a John Edwards-style charlatan-- look at how well he panders to Filpino Tilt-a-Whirl operators!

A lot of the jokes seem a little sillier than they need to be-- it's almost funnier to hear about Ferrell punching a baby than to see it happen in slow-motion-- but it's hard not to have faith in how funny it can be when Ferrell and Galifianakis face off together. And while director Jay Roach has had some misfires with the Meet the Parents and Austin Powers sequels, he also made the acclaimed HBO political movies Recount and Game Change, so combining his love of silly humor and politics ought to pay off seriously here.
