Boston: David Ortiz Drops F Bomb At Fenway, Do You Approve?

Earlier today, the Boston Red Sox took the field for the first time since the tragic bombing. Prior to the start, David Ortiz took to the field and spoke for the team, offering thanks to the first responders, praise for the city’s leadership and a vow that the citizens will never back down.

It was that last area that attracted the most attention, thanks entirely to Ortiz’s choice of language. Looking out at the faces of everyone in the crowd, Big Papi shouted, “This is our fucking city.” The line got huge applause from the crowd, but because of the profanity, it’s attracted a little bit of controversy too.

On the one hand, if ever there was a time to drop an f-bomb, it was after such an emotional week. I’m sure a healthy percentage of Boston residents have been thinking the exact same thing, and in a way, there was something about his words that let out collective frustration, sort of like Uncle Ruslan’s press conference. On the other hand, there were plenty of children in the crowd, and he could have expressed his sentiments just as easily not using profanity.

What do you think? Are you glad Ortiz dropped an f-bomb? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
