Dax Shepard And Kristen Bell Celebrate DOMA Ruling With Twitter Proposal

Parenthood’s Dax Shepard and House of Lies’ Kristen Bell have been an incredibly cute couple for years. In fact, they’ve basically been the poster children in terms of cute Hollywood couples, and they recently even added a cute member to the family. Despite being engaged for well over three years, however, the couple opted not to get married, citing the lack of gay marriage in California as a reason to hold off. Before walking down the aisle, they wanted to see the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) struck down by the Supreme Court. Luckily, that was achieved this week, and now, the couple are ready to say “I do” and fully commit to the relationship.

To celebrate the overturning of the act, Bell took to Twitter to express her ideas on love and equality. Eventually, she then got down on one typing hand—OK, not really—and proposed to her partner.

The couple have been pretty vocal in their defense of gay marriage over the years. As if holding off on getting married wasn’t enough of a statement, the two have also talked about their stance during interviews and made their position very well known in the twitterverse. If you haven’t caught any of Bell and Shepard’s reasons for holding off, the following quote from US Weekly outlines the two’s motivations extremely well.

"I'll feel more comfortable having a party -- or whatever we have, if anything -- if half of our friends who are homosexuals [can celebrate] . . It's just kind of rude to invite everyone to a party for a rite not everyone can hold."

Holding off on getting married is a tough decision to make, especially for a couple as loving and domestic as Shepard and Bell. However, I can’t think of a better reason to not get married than for the couple to be standing up for their belief system. They’ve already shared so much in this life, including days spent with sloths, having a child, and even working together on projects like last year’s Hit and Run. Since Shepard had an enthusiastic response to Bell’s comment on Twitter, they’ll soon be able to add a big marriage to the lengthy list of things the two have been able to share.

Obviously, a Twitter conversation is not the same thing as setting an official date, but hopefully the two lovebirds will begin planning some sort of ceremony or party, soon. From a dress to a location, there will be plenty of details to work out and Pop Blend would like to wish the couple the very best in the process. There's nothing like fighting for a cause and getting your wish granted, and now that DOMA has been overturned, the real fun for many couples, including Shepard and Bell, can start.
