Seinfeld's Mr. Kruger Hospitalized After Failed Suicide Attempt

Daniel von Bargen is in serious condition in an Ohio hospital after a failed suicide attempt. The actor, best known for playing George Costanza’s lazy and shameless boss Mr. Kruger on Seinfeld, was supposed to have several of his toes amputated, but rather than undergo the procedure, he decided to shoot himself in the head. The bullet connected with its target but did not end his life, forcing a 911 call in which he explained the situation to the operator.
Authorities were dispatched to the scene immediately. Upon arriving, they ordered von Bargen to put the gun down. Once the weapon was secured, paramedics rushed him to the hospital. According to TMZ, the scary situation happened Monday morning, and the actor has been receiving medical treatment ever since. As of press time, it’s unclear whether or not he’ll survive, but Pop Blend sends out its deepest sympathies to his family, as well as its well-wishes for his safe recovery.
von Bargen might not be a household name, but he’s turned in scene stealing roles in numerous productions. Broken Lizard fans no doubt remember his work as Police Chief Grady in Super Troopers, and he also made many appearances as the head of Marlin Academy on Malcolm In The Middle. Still, it’s his hysterical performances on Seinfeld that I will always cherish the most. It’s not easy to stand alongside George Steinbrenner in terms of memorable bosses the show gave us, but I always liked the shiftless Kruger every bit as much.
