Sometimes a few changes go a long way. Last nightís Golden Globe telecast opted to cut Ricky Gervais from his normal hosting gig, instead choosing two feisty and intelligent female comedians to propel the show forward. Apparently, this hosting strategy worked, because the Golden Globes have posted their best ratings in six years.
The Golden Globes is an exciting ceremony for a TV fan, as we get to see the stars and producers of some of our favorite TV shows honored with awards for their efforts. It's always good when we, the viewers, agree with the Hollywood Foreign Press on their choices for the past year's best of the best. But it's not always easy to predict which way they'll vote and whether or not they get it right is certainly subject to opinion and debate. And sometimes our picks don't line up with the HFPA's choices.
The 2013 Golden Globe Awards aired Sunday night, celebrating some of the best movies and television from the last year. The event itself had its high points, including an appearance by President Bill Clinton and a very heartfelt speech by Cecil B. Demille Award winner Jodie Foster. And though they weren't around as much as we might have liked, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did a fine job of hosting.
Hosting an awards show is hard. Some of the greatest comedic minds of the last five decades have stepped up to the plate and wound up embarrassing themselves. Let the record show Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have not added their names to that depressing lot. In fact, the ladies positively crushed their opening monologue, generating a couple of laughs so big they actually had to leave an extended pause to let the audience recover.
The 2013 Golden Globe awards are happening tonight, celebrating some of the best film and television from the last year in one big star-studded event. We're live blogging the event, from the red carpet to the ceremony to all of the winners! Follow along with our live blog as the event plays out, and feel free to chime in with your own two cents on the winners, the speeches, the celebrities, and hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
The longtime American Idol host is not a comedian, but he is slyly funny and more importantly, ruthlessly efficient. Heís one of the hardest working, most professional men in Hollywood, and if given the Globes assignment, he would put in the time, energy and thought needed to keep the show running on time, reduce awkwardness and put out the most professional product possible.
Part of the anticipation of the 2013 Golden Globe Awards is getting to see nominees Tina Fey and Amy Poehler take the stage to host the event. NBC released a promotional photo of the two NBC funny women today and from the look of it, they're ready for the spotlight.
It's already looking like 2013 is going to be another good year for funny women. Just last night, MTV revealed that Bridesmaids' Rebel Wilson was set to host the MTV Movie Awards, and we already knew that NBC has 30 Rock's Tina Fey and Parks and Recreation's Amy Poehler on board to host the Golden Globes, which air early next year. The Peacock has offered another reminder of the hosting duo set up for the awards show with a new promo featuring Fey and Poehler.
With the 2013 Golden Globe nominations announced, NBC wasted no time reminding us that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are hosting the event by releasing a new promo, which has the two hosts practicing their hosting voices in anticipation of the big night. Fortunately, they have a month to work on that. Watch the promo ahead!
The nominations for the 2013 Golden Globes are in, and while there aren't a lot of huge surprises among the list of TV nominees, things weren't exactly status quo either. In fact, only two of the five nominated dramas are repeats from last year. And the same goes for the comedies, which may make both categories a bit trickier to predict.
Come next month, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will take the stage at the Golden Globe Awards to host the event, which celebrates some of the best movies and television have had to offer in the past year. The nominations for the 2013 Golden Globe Awards were announced today, and the nominees include a mixture of new and returning shows, with Smash, Girls and Nashville among some of the new series acknowledged with nominations.
Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have a few key things in common. They both rose to fame through their roles on Saturday Night Live, they're both currently starring in NBC Thursday night comedies, and they're both especially funny women who deserve the credit they receive for what they bring to television. Oh, and they're both hosting the Golden Globes next year!
One of the best moments from Sunday night's Golden Globe Awards was the showdown between former television nemeses Stringer Bell and Detective Jimmy McNulty. Dominic West (McNulty) walked away empty handed for his performance in The Hour while Idris Elba (Bell) went home with the big prize for his stunning turn in Luther. If you haven't been watching the fantastic BBC America series, now's your chance because, in honor of Elba's award win, BBC there's a Luther marathon scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
While Ricky Gervais says he ďhad a blastĒ hosting the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards this past Sunday night, the comedian is done for good with the job... or so it seems, based on recent comments. Gervais took to his blog this week to weigh in with his thoughts on the Golden Globes and share a picture of himself during what may be a backstage moment at the event.
Iím sure Iím not alone in thinking that last nightís Golden Globes didnít feature quite enough Ricky Gervais. The host took the stage numerous and fired a few comedic shots into the crowd, some of which hit and others not so much, but over all, it sounds like NBC was pleased with his efforts.
