The Powerpuff Girls Is Adding A New Member To The Group

Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup The Powerpuff Girls Cartoon Network

Sugar, spice, and everything nice. These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little girl, but as I'll save you from reading through the rest of the show's classic introduction, Professor Utonium accidentally added Chemical X and ever since The Powerpuff Girls have been protecting the city of Townsville with their superpowers. Now, they're about to add a new member to the team as Cartoon Network teases the reveal of a fourth Powerpuff Girl that will be seen in an upcoming five-part movie event.

This new Powerpuff Girl, who EW only teases via silhouette, looks to have long wild hair and possibly be the tallest member of the group. It could also be the character is in the foreground of the drawing with the traditional lineup of The Powerpuff Girls in the background, but if not, this new character is maybe slightly taller than the tip of the bow on Blossom's head. It's also worth mentioning the character's silhouette is purple, which may indicate their outfit and color scheme will be as well. Cartoon Network says the full identity of this character will be revealed in the beginning of the five-part movie event The Powerpuff Girls: Power of Four, which is set to air September 17th.

As fans of the original run of The Powerpuff Girls may remember, this isn't the first time the girls have welcomed a new member into the fold. There was a time where Princess Morbucks attempted to buy her way into the group with a super suit, but ultimately was rejected by the girls after her efforts resulted in some robbers getting away. Ultimately, the rejection drives Princess to become an enemy of the girls, and her character continues to be a thorn in their collective side even in this current series. Given that the shape of the character looks nothing like Princess, it's doubtful Cartoon Network is resurrecting this storyline, so classic fans needn't worry about their childhood being ruined twice-over.

There was also an episode of The Powerpuff Girls where they attempted to create another sister using random ingredients and Chemical X, which resulted in Bunny. Bunny looked like the best mixture someone could hope for if there was a mashup between The Powerpuff Girls and Sloth from The Goonies. Bunny ended up exploding due to instability, so she's no longer around, but it's possible that purple dress she wore could make a comeback with our new heroine joining the squad!

We won't know anything regarding this new character for sure until The Powerpuff Girls: Power Of Four makes its debut Sunday, Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. ET on Cartoon Network. While this news is perhaps a bit controversial to purist fans who wish to see the girl team remain a threesome, it's nowhere near the level of drama regarding the show that circulated the web earlier this year. Fans who can't wait to see the new member of the team can distract that longing with plenty of new shows featured on our fall premiere guide, or maybe check out what's coming up on Netflix via this guide.
