For Anglophiles the world over, any day that involves a glimpse into another well-produced period drama is a good day. The clothes, the sights, the accents, the intrigue. All of that and more is on display in the Jeremy Piven-fronted ITV/PBS series, Mr. Selfridge, which has been tapped for a second. And from the 60-seconds we see in the new trailer above, five years have passed between the dealings of season one and the upcoming season two, bringing with it an assortment of changes and a fresh perspective on the dramatic dealings of one of businessí most colorful characters.
Mr. Selfridge might well have been a series that flew entirely under the American radar were it not for a few factors; first, that it focuses on an American entrepreneur, second, that it stars Entourageís Jeremy Piven, and finally, that itís a British series set in the same time period as the incredibly successful Downton Abbey. The two-hour premiere of the series leaves me wondering if any of those things will have much impact on its success on this side of the pond.
ITV has apparently been on the hunt for a high-profile American actor for the starring role in a series they have set to begin production in April, and they may have found one in Jeremy Piven. Word is, the Entourage star is in talks to star in the 10-episode ITV drama series Mr. Selfridge.
