Bill Lawrence's Ground Floor And Cee Lo Green Reality Show Coming To TBS In 2014
TBS has a couple of new series on the way, one scripted and one unscripted. In the reality front, the network will be giving us a look inside the work and life of musician Cee Lo Green with The CeeLo Life (working title). Meanwhile, on the scripted side, Cougar Town and Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence and 2 Broke Girls' Greg Malins have a new comedy series headed to TBS called Ground Floor.
Ground Floor will star Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect), Briga Heelan (Cougar Town) and John C. McGinley (Scrubs), and will center on the developing romantic relationship of a hot shot banker (Astin) and the beautiful woman (Heelan), who also happens to be a maintenance worker in the building where he just started working. Here's the official description:
Ground Floor is set in the modern world of corporate America. The show centers on Brody (Astin), a young hot-shot banker at Whitestone Trust who thought he was just having a one-night stand with Jennifer (Heelan), a beautiful woman he met at a bar. But when he discovers that she works in maintenance for the building where he works, their worlds begin to collide in the most unexpected way. Facing Brody’s critical boss, Mr. Mansfield (McGinley), as well as annoyed colleagues, the pair must find a way to deal with their growing feelings for each other in this modern take on Romeo & Juliet.
I really liked Astin in Pitch Perfect, so that's one of numerous selling points for this series. It'll also be interesting to see how Lawrence and Malins do with a cable channel comedy series. TBS is the current home to Cougar Town, but the series originated at ABC.
TBS doesn't say if this is single or multi-camera, but I'm inclined to guess by the picture (above) that it's a multi-camera. It's hard to speculate beyond the photo. Lawrence's recent work has been single-camera (Scrubs, Cougar Town), while Malin's better known for multi-camera comedies (Friends, How I Met Your Mother). What we do know is that TBS has given the series a 10-episode order and they're looking to get it in the air in 2014.
As for Cee Lo's reality series, TBS has given it a 6-episode order and they're also looking to premiere it in 2014. The series will follow the former Voice mentor as he works on his music career, which involves re-teaming with his close friends Big Gipp, Khujo and T-Mo as they prepare to bring their hip-hop group Goodie Mob back to the stage. In addition to that, CeeLo's also working on his fourth album, which should be released later this year. We'll also see him in the film Can a Song Save Your Life?. So it sounds like he's got plenty on his plate and hopefully at least some of that will make it into this new series.
