Michael Zegen has been associated with numerous popular TV shows in recent years, including FX’s former program Rescue Me, AMC’s The Walking Dead, and HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. Now, he’s signing on for a comedy-oriented gig on another HBO program, Girls.

Deadline first reported the news, noting that HBO is currently keeping mum about what sort of role the actor famous for appearing on The Tonight Show as “Dwight the Troubled” teen will play. However, suffice to say, his newest HBO role will assumedly not be as gangster-oriented as the last one the actor played over at the network. While we know little about the character or the number of episodes he will appear in, the media outlet is noting his character may fill the space left after the abrupt departure of Christopher Abbott, who played Marnie’s on-again, off-again lover, Charlie, on the series.

If this theory holds true, it would mean Zegen might be involved with Marnie throughout Season 3 of Girls, as Abbott's abrupt exit will have to be translated into an random plot within the series and something will need to be written to explain the character leaving the show. However, clearly we’re just surmising here and Zegen could totally have plotlines oriented with one of the other three women in the series. If the season finale is any indication, maybe he’ll even hit it off with Shoshanna. We’ll keep you posted as more details about Zegen’s role and the new season break.
