It may not always be roses over at NBC when it comes to ratings, but it seems none of the network’s issues extend to the evening news. Host Brian Williams and his NBC Nightly News increased their lead over both World News With Diane Sawyer over at ABC and CBS’ Evening News With Katie Couric. The former was at least able to remain competitive, while CBS plummeted further into the abyss, failing to even top an average of six million viewers a night.

According to The Huffington Post, the fourth quarter figures represent the largest lead NBC has enjoyed since 2004. Williams and company averaged about 8.7 million a night, while ABC trailed with 7.6 million and CBS brought up the distant rear with 5.8 million viewers.

It’s unclear what the disappointing figures may mean for Katie Couric as she nears the end of her massive contract, but the new figures should guarantee more Brian Williams greatness, as he hopefully will continue guesting on 30 Rock and SNL.
