Doctor Who may be off the air for a while now that Season 9 has come to an end, and we may not get too much news about what is ahead for Twelve in the near future. Luckily, Doctor Who spinoff Class is already filming, and a new bit of casting news has been released that promises a fun twist to the new series. Doctor Who actor Paul Marc Davis has won a recurring role in Class.

Paul Marc Davis is a particularly fun addition thanks to his extensive experience in the Doctor Who universe. In addition to his role as the Futurekind Chieftain in a Season 3 episode of Who, he appeared in the two existing spinoffs during their runs on the BBC. He appeared as a Cowled Ghost on Torchwood, and as the villain Trickster on The Sarah Jane Adventures. The details of his role on Class are not yet available, but CultBox confirms that Davis will appear in several episodes. He will be the only actor thus far to appear in Doctor Who as well as all of its spinoffs.

Davis has plenty of experience outside of the Who universe. He’s appeared in multiple episodes of TV series Silent Witness and EastEnders. He had a memorable role in the film Son of God and played a Biblical character for TV mini-series documentary The Bible. Judging by the wide variety of parts he’s tackled over the years, it’s safe to say that Paul Marc Davis will be able to handle whatever Class throws at him.

Class will be a very different spinoff than either Torchwood or The Sarah Jane Adventures. The first two offshoots starred major adult companions from past seasons of Doctor Who; Class will revolve around four students attending the Coal Hill School in contemporary London. It will be a young adult series with a distinctly Whovian twist: the walls of space and time are breaking around Coal Hill, and a wide variety of dangers are waiting to pass through into the students’ lives.

Coal Hill School has already been mentioned several times on Doctor Who, so it actually makes a lot of sense that the walls of space and time might not be 100% intact in that area. The school was first visited all the way back in 1963 with the first Doctor and his granddaughter, and it was visited again in “Remembrance of the Daleks” in 1988. More recently, Coal Hill was seen in the 50th anniversary special as the school where Clara Oswald was teaching during her time off from adventures with Eleven.

Class is set to be released later this year, so we won’t have too torturous of a wait to find out just who or what Paul Marc Davis will be playing in the new spinoff. In the meantime, check out our schedule of summer TV premiere dates to see what shows you can tune into to pass the time.
