When Martha Stewart transferred over to the Hallmark Channel in 2010, it seemed like the Universal-owned channel had high hopes that the popular daytime host could invigorate the network’s programming. Unfortunately, The Martha Stewart Show was cancelled just a few short seasons later. In the series' wake, Hallmark’s gap in scheduling has allowed the network to attempt new tactics to earn viewers. Marie Osmond has been hired to do a daytime talk show, and now the network is nabbing one of Entertainment Tonight’s best and brightest.

Mark Steines already had plans in the works to leave Entertainment Tonight later in the year. Now, according to THR, he’ll use his talents on Hallmark as the host of an upcoming house and home program. Called Home & Family, the new series will be taped in a house on Universal’s lot and is expected to premiere on October 1.

Apparently, the network is either pretty confident in the home improvement ideas Home & Family will generate or else has high hopes in Steines because they are giving the show a full two hours on the cable station during each weekday. Hallmark Channel has also ordered a whopping 220 episodes already, which translates to 44 weeks of television. Steines certainly has the charisma for the gig, even if he doesn’t have the decorating experience, so I’m sure he will do fine. Hopefully, between Home & Family and Osmond’s show Marie!, the network will be able to produce some viable daytime competition.
