It seems like over the past year, every once in a while there are reports of a former cast member from Arrested Development mentioning their interest in a big screen version of the brilliant but cancelled series. While the possibility of the movie looms in the distance, time eventually passes with no real mention from anyone close to the potential project about whether or not it’s really going to happen. Well it looks like there’s some actual news about the AD movie, now.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, series executive producers Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard are reportedly closing deals for the project from Imagine and Fox Searchlight. If this is true then there’s a good chance this movie could actually be getting made.
Arrested Development is one of those series that didn’t fare well in the ratings when it aired on Fox but it’s developed quite a following over the years that followed it’s cancellation. I’m among the many people who didn’t get into the show until after Fox dropped it. I found that watching the series from the beginning made a huge difference as the comedy is quite serialized and requires a fair knowledge of the characters’ quirks in order to fully get the jokes. There are surely many others out there who are looking to make it up to the hilarious series for not contributing to the ratings by helping make this movie successful at the box office, if it does actually become a reality.
