USA announced today that Burn Notice star Jeffrey Donovan will be directing the upcoming prequel movie starring Bruce Campbell.

If you're a Burn Notice fan who wants to get to know Bruce Campbell’s character Sam Axe a little better, this two-hour prequel film sounds like it’ll do the trick. The film, which is set to begin production in January on location in Bogota Columbia, will air on USA in Spring 2011. Below is the information USA released on the plot:

The prequel, set in late 2005, begins after a faction of Colombian rebels makes trouble for the locally stationed military platoon, with Lieutenant Commander Sam Axe (Campbell) being sent down to advise. As the mission unfolds, Sam begins to uncover the dark secrets of the area, learning the truth about sacrifice, deception, and ultimately what’s worth fighting for.

Sounds fairly epic if you ask me. Burn Notice series creator Matt Nix will write and serve as executive producer on the film. Jeffrey Donovan and Bruce Campbell are also among the executive producers.
