Glee seems to be stockpiling guest stars lately. White Collarís Matt Bomer is set to appear in the musical drama seriesí first post-hiatus episode next month, and we learned recently that Whoopi Goldberg was set to appear in the series later this spring. And now it looks like Lindsay Lohan may be guest starring in the series at some point during the remainder of its third season.
TV Line posted the news, stating that Lohan is in final negotiations for a guest staring role in one of this seasonís final episodes. Should the deal go through, Lohan will play a celebrity judge at the Nationals competition. As the site notes, Lohan isnít the first celebrity to play a judge on the series, with Josh Groban and Olivia Newton-John having played similar roles on the Fox series in the past.
Lohanís recent Saturday Night Live hosting stint more or less fizzled, but even beyond that, Iím having a hard time getting excited over this Glee news. If sheís aiming to put herself back in the spotlight for her work, as opposed to her private life, Iíd rather see her deliver a solid performance in a different kind of role. Something with breakthrough potential (like the Elizabeth Taylor biopic sheís in talks to do for Lifetime). Sure, actors playing themselves seems like all the rage these days (See: Lifeís Too Short, Episodes, and the upcoming ABC comedy Donít Trust the B---- In Apartment 23), but as someone whoíd like to see Lohan make a real comeback, I think she might do better to aim for drama, or at the very least, a comedy in which she plays someone other than a version of herself.
It also doesnít help that Glee sort of overuses the guest-star gimmick, which already takes some of the shine off this news. With that said, I'm still excited to see Matt Bomer when Glee returns.
