Fox Orders Teen Spy Drama Pilot From Bones' Karyn Usher image
The teen spy has been underutilized in pop culture. No really. We’ve seen kid spies in the Robert Rodriguez-directed Spy Kids franchise. We saw a teen assassin in last year’s Hanna and a graduate student spy on ABC’s Alias in the early 2000s. As far as teen spies go, Disney’s Kim Possible is coming to mind – and she’s a freelancer, at that. However, the teen spy theme may become popular thanks to a new drama pilot from Fox.

Written by Bones' Karyn Usher, the new procedural will follow a 17-year-old girl who is the daughter of a CIA agent. Showing promise, the young girl herself will be recruited into the CIA. After recruitment the girl will meet up with an older assassin who will take her under his wing. Currently, the drama, from 20th Century Fox TV and Studio 21/Adelstein Productions, has no title. TV Blend will also keep you posted on any casting news Fox releases.

Usher’s untitled drama is actually the second spy drama Fox has bought this season. According to Deadline two days ago Fox also ordered a pilot for Josh Friedman’s The Asset, about an adult female CIA spy. Generally a network will try to compete with another network with its pilots, as happened in the battle between period pieces NBC's The Playboy Club and ABC's Pan Am at the beginning of this past season. However, it will be the battle of the young spy versus an older one on Fox next season. If there’s one thing I know about badass women, it’s that only one is likely to prevail. What do you think? Can the teen spy angle work or is it time for another female spy drama?
