No Anniversary Edition For Blair Witch, But Is A Director's Cut Possible?

It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years since The Blair Witch Project hit theaters and made its impact on the horror genre, an impact that is still clear to see, especially with last year’s Cloverfield utilizing a similar approach of “real footage” revealed as the movie. Unlike most anniversaries, there don’t appear to be any plans on the horizon for an anniversary edition of Blair Witch, which is a bit of a surprise, especially with word from creators Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick that they’d like the opportunity to do a new cut of the movie.

Sanchez and Myrick talked to Rotten Tomatoes about the anniversary of the movie, including a retrospect on making the movie, the sensation it became, and, most importantly, the desire to do a longer cut of the film. The original cut of Blair Witch was too long - about two and a half hours, and the creators would like to put some of the cut content back in.

What would the new edit include that had been left out before? For starters, there was a sort of poetry duel between Josh and Mike the night they spend in the hotel. Originally, Sanchez and Myrick knew they needed to get the movie moved into the woods, but they felt bad losing the scene. Another cut piece was a testimony from Mike where he goes a bit crazy and starts punching trees or something.

Personally, what I’d like to see is a more complete look at making the movie. Everything that came out at the time did its best to sell the mythos that Blair Witch was real - that these kids were lost in the woods forever. But the creators shared some behind-the-scenes footage with RT that shows some of the process behind making the movie. Take a look below:
