It's No Victor Mancini Con, Choke Comes To DVD

You can only image the hilarity that ensues as you watch a comedy about a man who works in a colonial theme park. For the black comedy Choke, the laughs don’t stop there. Thanks to Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment you can take home the absurd story of Victor Mancini (Sam Rockwell) on DVD February 17th.

The film is based on a novel by Chuck Palahniuk, which tells the story of a man named Victor who reenacts life in Colonial America for a living. As you can image, he doesn’t make much money. Out of desperation for extra cash so he can support his hospitalized mother (Anjelica Huston), Victor simply chokes at restaurants and claims sympathy payments. To make his life even more convoluted, Victor is also a recovering sex addict. Sound like a recipe for calamity to me.

The Choke DVD comes with audio commentary, five deleted scenes, a conversation with the director and author, “My Name is Victor and I’m a Sex Addict” featurette, “A Mother’s Love” featurette, “From the Los Angeles Film Festival, “Fox Movie Channel Presents: Casting Session,” and, most importantly, a gag reel.

A good laugh and a gag reel is good enough for me. The fact that the film won the Special Jury Prize at Sundance couldn’t hurt either. Hopefully I can scrounge up the $27.98 for this DVD. Otherwise, I might have to resort to some Victor Mancini-like techniques. On second thought, I’d rather sacrifice my lattes for a week and save up.
