The Square Brings Australian Noir To Blu-Ray And DVD August 24th

You probably haven't heard of The Square. I hadn't heard of The Square prior to a press release turning up in my inbox. Based on the moody trailer, however, we all might want to check it out on DVD next month.

The Square was a family affair, with director Nash Edgerton taking the helm from a script co-written by and co-starring his brother, Joel (along with Matthew Dabner). That connection is strangely appropriate, since the twisty neo-noir focuses on the dissolution of a family. Tired of suffering through a loveless marriage, Raymond Yale (David Roberts) begins an affair with the lovely Carla (Claire van der Boom). Unfortunately, Carla's hubby is not exactly what you'd call a law-abiding citizen, and soon Ray and Carla have hatched a scheme that could leave them very rich...or very dead.

The flick has been compared to Coen Bros. movies such as Blood Simple, and that's damn good company to be in. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing it on both Blu-ray and DVD this August. The special features will include a music video, deleted scenes, three featurettes ("Inside The Square," "Pre-Visualization," "Visual Effects"), and director Edgerton's award-winning short film, Spider.
