Van Wilder's Rise To The Top On DVD

We all know Van Wilder is the man, but how did he reach that level of infamy at Coolidge College? On March 17th, courtesy of Paramount Home Entertainment, journey back to Van’s very first or seven years at college.

Coolidge College wasn’t always the haven of parties and girls we all know it to be. In fact, when Van Wilder (Jonathan Bennett) first stepped foot on campus, the university was under the control of a super strict dean (Kurt Fuller) and all of the girls had taken vows of chastity. Now, it’s up to our favorite party going slacker to loosen up the administration and turn Coolidge into the party school Van had always imagined it to be.

In true Van Wilder fashion, the bonus material is full of laughs. You’ll get a look at the making of the film, featurette about Van’s dog Colossus, the Coolidge College orientation video, a featurette called “Teacher’s Pets,” another called “Van’s Party Supplies,” “Pranks 101” and finally, my personal favorite, bloopers. Nothing is better than a comedy’s gag reel.

Nope, the Van Wilder series does not have a single film nominated for any type of award, but that doesn’t mean it won’t leave you with a huge smile on your face. Both the original Van Wilder and the sequel, The Rise of Taj, certainly find themselves in the guilty pleasure category, but there’s nothing wrong with that. If the newest installment, Van Wilder: Freshman Year can provide me with ninety minutes of uproarious fun, I’ll be on board for Van’s latest crusade.
