Microsoft will be hosting a sale on Xbox One and Xbox 360 games, giving gamers an opportunity to grab some of the brand's top tier games for anywhere between 40% and 60% off. There will be deals on more than 250 different Xbox titles, but the sale is only going to last between July 5 and July 11. So you'll have to hurry if you want to get in on the deals.
The news was posted up over on the Major Nelson blog, where Larry Hryb explains that not only will games be discounted, but game systems will be discounted as well. Various iterations of the Xbox One and Xbox 360 will be marked down as part of the 4th of July Independence Day sales spree. Those with Xbox Live Gold will also have steeper discounts than those with Xbox Live Silver. He doesn't specifically say what the pricing will be for the consoles, but I'm sure the price-slashing will be significant enough to help move some consoles and get the competition boiling between Microsoft and Sony.
And while this is a sale for Xbox themed games and products, Hryb explains that there will also be discounts on up to 30 different PC titles through the Windows 10 store. Now I know how most people feel about Windows 10 exclusives, so it's unlikely that the discounts will be too significant. It's likely Microsoft's way of partially extending an olive branch due to some of the shoddy ports that have appeared on Windows 10... like Quantum Break and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.
As for the games that will be discounted... they aren't pushovers and indie game throwaways. Microsoft is slashing prices on some well known titles, including Ubisoft's recently released The Division, which is a third-person MMO that just came out earlier this year during the spring, as well as Halo 5: Guardians, the premiere Halo game for the Xbox One from 343 Industries. Even critically acclaimed and top selling games like The Witcher 3 are scheduled to be discounted as well.
There's a wide mixture of games, accessories and DLC that are discounted. For instance, Studio Wildcard's ARK: Survival Evolved will be discounted by up to 25%, where-as Assassin's Creed IV will be knocked off by up to 60%.
Gearbox Software's recently released and poorly selling first-person shooter, Battleborn, will be slashed in price by half off, it'll be joined by another Gearbox title, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, which will be available for up to 60% off.
Bethesda's Fallout 4 will be half-off, along with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.
Surprisingly, Evolve and F1 2015 will both be discounted by more than 60%. In fact, Evolve Ultimate Edition will be available for up to 67% off while F1 2015 will be discounted by up to 75% off. Those are nearing Steam-style discounts.
As mentioned, it's not just games getting the prices slashed. DLC will also be on sale as well, including a wide range of Call of Duty add-on packs, as well as cash shop currency for various MMO games such as Neverwinter Online. The cash shop discounts range from 10% off to 30% off, with a little mixture of everything else in between.
You can look to get in on the sale starting tomorrow on July 5 and it will run up until July 11, next week.
