The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon is a very different kind of show. He shows unparalleled amounts of ebullience for various topics and has a real soft spot in his heart for video games. Well, that soft spot was put on display when a very special guest joined The Roots on stage to play with them.

The video was posted up over on the Tonight Show YouTube channel, featuring just a minute's worth of footage where The Roots are joined by a very special guest in the form of the legendary and incomparable Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo.

The iconic designer sits down front and center with The Roots and plays an acoustic guitar version of the Super Mario Bros., theme song.

The segment was tiny, but it accompanied the larger scope of the show where Reggie Fils-Aime brought Jimmy a firsthand look at the new Super Mario Run for mobile devices, which is a little like an endless runner fused with classic Mario gameplay. The controls are extremely simple and rely on one-button mechanics so players can easily get through the levels and win the stages without too much trouble. It's centered around timing and a bit of reflexes.

That wasn't all that Reggie had to show Jimmy. Inside of a yellow mystery box was a working model of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo's upcoming home and portable console that can easily switch between being docked for home television play or taken with you for mobile gaming.

For the first time ever the audience -- and Jimmy -- were treated to live gameplay of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It covered a lot of features in a short amount of time, including showcasing Link in an all new armor set we haven't seen him in before and his ability to scale a hill and slide down it on his shield like a surfboard. What was impressive was how good Jimmy was playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild without having any prior experience handling the Nintendo Switch or actually playing the game.

The late night TV show host was genuinely excited about running around, slashing down goblins and surfing across hilltops with the lovable Link.

From the audience, Shigeru Miyamoto watched on as Jimmy played the upcoming Nintendo exclusive for the first time. Jimmy even briefly went into a stammered story about how Miyamoto even came up with and designed the original Legend of Zelda, recalling Miyamoto's interview where he talked about venturing into caves as a child and other exploration related hobbies that led to the creation of the game.

Jimmy was on his A-game when it came to hardcore gaming knowledge... Nintendo knowledge.

The segment and sporadic appearances of Miyamoto throughout the episode had a lot of gamers thoroughly excited. Seeing him on stage alongside The Roots playing a mellowed version of the Super Mario Bros., theme song was just icing on top.
