The Honest Game Trailers folks are at it again, this time taking aim at the hit orc murder simulator, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor. It includes the term "Murderous ghost Batman," so you know you're in for a good time.
The entire trailer basically serves as a solid reminder of all of the reasons Shadow of Mordor has become such a fan-favorite game from the Tolkien universe, complete with a montage of decapitations. It's rife with lore from that universe but, since it's an original story, it isn't bogged down with all of those pesky details. You're a dude who was murdered alongside his family and, with your rad ghost powers, you get to seek revenge by cutting a bloody path through Mordor. Neat!
If it feels like this particular trailer is more friendly than some of the other HGT offerings, it's because there isn't much you can complain about from Shadow of Mordor. They at least take a swipe at the game's Generals, though, noting that the fun kind of comes to a halt when you learn their kill condition is "only drop attacks on the Monday of a full moon." Yeah, that's pretty hilarious.
Shadow of Mordor took the gaming world by surprise back in 2014. It pretty much came out of nowhere, which meant folks weren't quite sure what to expect. Once the game launched, though, buzz started to build, earning the title a nice following.
Some of Shadow of Mordor's strongest points were its open, living world, varied combat options, rad as hell decapitations and a Nemesis system that let you build a true hatred for orc generals that keep coming back for more.
If this Shadow of Mordor Honest Game Trailer feels late to the party, then you probably forgot the good news. Shadow of Mordor is getting a sequel called Shadow of War, and it's looking to take everything we loved about the original game and crank it all of the way up to 11. With hype building around that upcoming action adventure title, it makes sense that HGT would want to circle back around to a great target they missed a few years back.
As for Shadow of War, it's due out this august, helping make the back half of 2017 just as packed with highly-anticipated games as the front half has been. Seriously, after Horizon, Zelda, Persona, Nioh and Nier, we're already feeling a bit spoiled this year. Now we've got Shadow of War and Destiny 2 launching in close proximity this fall, so this 2017 is shaping up to be pretty fantastic from a gaming standpoint.
