NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Entertainment released the latest trailer for the upcoming superhero fighting game, Injustice 2. This time it focuses on one of the special villains featured in the game, Darkseid. The trailer highlights his moves, combos and his devastating special move.
The video starts with Darkseid walking out from behind his minions... and he faces off against Brainiac. I'm really, really, hoping that in the story mode there's some sort of interaction between the two, because that would be so cool. Brainiac, however, asks if Darkseid is a god, and Darkseid responds by saying he's from the fiery depths of Apokalypse. Brainiac simply retorts "noted for classification".
I was expecting something a bit snappier about him possibly attempting to acquire Darkseid for his own collection, especially after that awesome story trailer they released featuring Brainiac in Injustice 2. Regardless, Brainiac ends up getting a royal beatdown at the hands of Darkseid. The boss character uses a lot of quick attacks and brute strength to knock his opponents off their feet and keep them subdued.
One thing that absolutely stands out above everything else is that Darkseid's posture and stance is so domineering. He waits patiently with his hands folded behind his back. His attacks are methodical and paced, precise and devastating.
We see one awesome clip where Wonder Woman throws her shield at Darkseid and he uses his Omega beams to cut off the projectile and blast her into the air.
You can tell NetherRealm took a lot of time and care into making sure Darkseid looked and behaved like his comic book counterpart in Injustice 2.
The majority of his attacks remind me of the way Darth Vader fought in the original Star Wars trilogy. Darkseid uses one hand to smack, beat, and smash his opponents around with ease, and he has a number of grab moves and counters centered on zapping, razing and burning his foes. One other attack is absolutely brilliant, which involves jumping into the air and doing a ground-counter by rapidly smashing an opponent as they attempt to move underneath him. It looks bone-crushingly satisfying.
Darkseid can even use his Omega beams to teleport around the screen, shooting them in one direction and having them hit opponents from behind. It's great.
As far as boss characters are concerned, Injustice 2 boasts a healthy helping of villains who show a lot of gumption and diversity in villainy, and I love it.
Injustice 2's specials also shine bright. In the case of Darkseid, his beams auto-track opponents so there's almost no escape. Huge props to NetherRealm for doing a lot of justice to this character. You can tell they really honored the source material with his portrayal in the game. You'll be able to get your hands on him starting May 16th for Xbox One and PS4.
