Just in time for the box office debut of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it's been confirmed that a pair of heroes from that rag-tag team will make an appearance in Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite.
In keeping in line with the tongue-in-cheek tone of the film, the tweet is capped off by a series of hashtags, including one for the game itself, one of the new Guardians film, one that boasts this is a "shameless plug" and a "movie tie-in."
As for the shameless plug part, we assume that's because these versions of Rocket and Groot boast designs pulled straight from the Marvel films. If you'll recall, Rocket appeared in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, only boasting a design more akin to what he looks like in the original series of comics. He looks more like a nasty little critter in an orange jumpsuit this time around, rather than a cuddly Disney character.
But what's interesting to note here is that the tweet includes a quote from Rocket and says he's confirmed for MvCI, but it doesn't say anything about Groot, who is definitely on display causing trouble for Rocket's opponent. We figure there's a pretty good chance this means Groot isn't exactly playable so much as a summon for one of Rocket's ultimate moves. Another possibility is that this will be one of those duo characters, with Rocket riding on Groot's back and different moves causing each of them to pummel the opposition. Either way, we're happy to see the duo fighting side by side.
Also, it makes sense that these guys would look more like their Guardians movie counterparts, as the game itself seems to be based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe more than the comics this time around. In other words, we really wouldn't be surprised if MvCI eventually reveals a new Spider-Man pulled straight out of the upcoming film. Or maybe it'll be more like what we're seeing with some of the other Marvel characters that, in their standard form, look like their classic selves. Thor and Hulk, for instance, will have costumes from the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok if you pre-order the game.
So now that Rocket and Groot have been added to the roster, who are you folks looking forward to seeing next? Any favorites from previous games, or perhaps a Marvel or Capcom character you've never played in one of these games but would love to see join the roster? Let us know in the comments below.
