Telltale and Marvel's collaboration on The Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series will continue to press forward as the next episode in the popular series has received its official release date for home consoles, PC and mobile devices.
According to Gamespot, Telltale's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series -- Episode 2: Under Pressure is set to release on June 6th for the Xbox One, PS4, PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices in two week's time.
This episode picks up where the last episode left off, which ended in a pretty big cliffhanger involving Star-Lord and another member of the Guardians depending on the choice the player made in the previous episode.
And therein lies one of the biggest selling points for the second episode of Telltale's take on Guardians of the Galaxy: many of your choices will carry over into the second episode and play a big part in how the story unfolds.
For those who played through the first episode, you might remember that Star-Lord happened upon a rare cosmic relic that Thanos wanted to acquire before he was killed by Rocket's makeshift gun.
Star-Lord discovered that the eternity forge device allowed the wielder to bring someone back by making a sacrifice. He was able to reunite with his mother through the forge, but before Star-Lord and the rest of the Guardians could figure out what to do with the forge they were waylaid and attacked by Hala and her Kree soldiers.
*Minor spoilers ahead. *The first episode ends with Star-Lord being killed by Hala as she attempts to use the forge to bring back a loved one close to her.
The second episode focuses more on the consequences of the eternity forge, and teases what could potentially happen if Gamora's half-sister, Nebula, gets her hands on the forge.
The article on Gamespot notes that Telltale reveals that the second episode of Guardians of the Galaxy will focus on the Guardians teaming up with old friends and "unwilling" new allies as they attempt to discover more about the forge and get answers to its true power.
They also hint at the next episode diving into the past of Rocket, possibly giving fans an idea as to what made him as surly as he is.
Speaking of Rocket being surly; in the first episode Rocket and Star-Lord had a massive falling out, which will obviously come to a head in the second episode. Whether or not that explosive tension will be present in each episode thereafter remains to be seen, but it's obvious it will play a big part in the events that unfold in the second episode of Guardians of the Galaxy.
The game from Telltale doesn't follow any of the events from the movies it's based on, nor does it follow a comic story. Much like the other Telltale stories out there, it's focused on their original take on the popular Marvel property, just like their take on Walking Dead and Batman, amongst other titles. We'll see if they can keep the momentum going as they head into the second episode of Guardians of the Galaxy on June 6th.
