Assassin's Creed Syndicate Trailer Introduces Pre-Order Missions

Two iconic characters from the era of the industrial revolution are making an appearance in Assassin's Creed Syndicate as pre-order DLC. The two characters are novelist Charles Dickens and scientist Charles Darwin.

You can see the DLC teaser in action with the trailer below from GamesHQMedia.

The video clocks in at just over a minute and features both Darwin and Dickens explaining to the two main protagonists, Jacob and Evie Frye that there are some conspiratorial missions for them to take on. We don't really learn what the missions are other than that the duo must save the residents of London from some serious dangers.

There doesn't appear to be any special weapons, clothing items or trinkets included in this pre-order DLC other than the missions involving Darwin and Dickens.

Of course, the YouTube comments for this latest Assassin's Creed Syndicate promotion broke out into complaints about day-one DLC being peddled for the game without any guarantee that this year's iteration will actually work out of the box.

The complaints are sensible given that last year a lot of the people who paid upfront for Assassin's Creed Unity were met with a game that had some segments that were literally unplayable due to a frame-rate bug where the game would fluctuate and drop all the down to 3fps. The stutter was absolutely atrocious and it made it difficult to play the game due to interference with the input latency and the game not responding correctly due to the janky frame-rate. It took Ubisoft several months to properly fix the problem.

A lot of gamers are worried that Ubisoft may be rushing out another Assassin's Creed too soon and that the game needs to be solid at launch in order for consumers to have restored faith in the franchise. At this point, though, it's really hard to tell how well Assassin's Creed Syndicate will turn out given that we've only seen some small bits and pieces of it. And of course the game works well enough during promotional segments, but so did Assassin's Creed Unity.

I think in some ways Ubisoft is kind of setting themselves up with these annual releases of these massive open-world games. While they did do a decent job with Assassin's Creed Rogue, the game was mostly overlooked given that it was only for the Xbox 360 and PS3 and a lot of hardcore gamers have moved on toward the PS4 and Xbox One.

If the comment section for Assassin's Creed Syndicate's pre-order DLC is anything to go by a lot of gamers aren't thrilled about it, mostly because they feel as if it's just more stripped content from the main game and that Assassin's Creed Syndicate will be another game filled with bugs on day one. It'll be up to Ubisoft to convince people that this isn't another buggy mess like Assassin's Creed Unity; if they fail this time around I don't think they'll have much room for being forgiven in next year's outing.
