Ever since Destiny was first announced, gamers have speculated over whether the game would come to PC. A new job listing should give new life to those conversations.
According to Bungie's career website, the company is looking for a Compatibility Tester. The new employee in question will be testing PC hardware to make sure it runs their software:
Testers at Bungie are grouped into teams, responsible for ensuring that an area of the game is ready to ship. The PC Compatibility Tester will evaluate PC hardware-specific features and ensure various systems work together across multiple PC configurations to provide a great experience. This is a challenging area to test, so we are only looking for the most resilient and technically minded testers. If you love solving new problems on a continuous basis with an eye for detail, you will love PC Compatibility Test at Bungie.
It seems the position is directly related to game development. The ideal candidate will have a "deep knowledge of PC gaming hardware" along with experience shipping a PC title.
Bungie has said some conflicting things about a possible Destiny PC version in the past. On the one hand, Bungie COO Pete Parsons said shortly after the announcement that they "would absolutely love to be on the PC" and that PC gamers should "stay tuned."
Shortly afterward, though, a Bungie community manager said that a PC version would spread the studio too thin:
It’s a huge challenge to ship four platforms and a massive opportunity to reach a new audience. We know there are a lot of people out there asking for PC and we know that there are a lot of gamers that would willingly give us money, but what we have to do is make sure we’re focused enough to bring a good experience to any platform that we ship on.
To be fair, though, Bungie said that two years ago. That's a long time so it's possible that they've since decided to make a PC version. Hopeful PC gamers should also remember that Bungie recently confirmed that High Moon Studios is working on the game as well. Between those two studios, they must have enough resources for a PC port, right?
On the other hand, creating post-launch content for Destiny like the upcoming expansion pack Taken King is probably occupying much of their manpower. Furthermore, Bungie is already working on Destiny 2. With all that going on, it's entirely possible that Bungie's not able to bring Destiny to PC. Publisher Activision may also consider a port for an almost year-old game to be a poor investment.
Will Destiny ever be released on PC?
