Diablo 3 Patch 1.0.2 Now Live, Servers Down For Maintenance

There's some good news and bad news for Diablo 3 players tonight. The good news is that Blizzard has implemented Patch 1.0.2. The bad news is that the servers crapped out after the patch went live.

Patch 1.0.2 makes a number of fixes to the action RPG. Players will no longer experience Error 14009 - an authentication bug - when logging into the game. Furthermore, players will now properly receive credit for the achievement "Till Death Do Us Part." The streaming downloader should be a lot quicker now as well.

Blizzard also threw a few class changes into the patch. The Monk's Serenity ability has been toned down a bit. Witch doctors will no longer experience an error when killing shadow clones with DoTs. Furthermore, their Spirit Vessel ability no longer clears debuffs when the player uses a waypoint or switches gear.

Rounding out the patch are a number of tweaks to the auction house. Items purchased from vendors can now be sold to other players. Additionally, you can now sort weapons and armor based on specific damage types. For a full list of the changes to the auction house and other features of the game, head to Battle.net.

Earlier today Blizzard announced that they're already working on Patch 1.0.3. That patch will focus more on balance than bug fixes. For example, it'll change the tuning of Inferno and make crafting less expensive.

Whatever brownie points Blizzard might've earned with this patch have unfortunately been squandered by the new connection problems. Blizzard's authentication servers were experiencing problems so the company took the game offline for maintenance. Ah, Error 37, my old friend. So good to see you again.
