Not content to merely churn out smaller DLC packs for Dragon Age: Origins, BioWare is going to release a full-fledged expansion for the game. Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening will be released worldwide for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 16th.

Awakening introduces a new area in the world called Amaranthine and starts where the base game ends. Players will fight the darkspawn once again and discover "their true motivations." New creatures, spells, abilities, items, and party members are included. The level cap's also been raised so you can use your existing DA:O character.

The expansion will cost $39.99 on release. The size and price suggest that it's going to be released through retail rather than through Xbox Live/PSN. I imagine Steam and similar services will carry the PC version, though.
