A back catalogue of popular Neo Geo games are being re-released for the PlayStation 3 and PSP across the PlayStation Network for the 20th anniversary of the Neo Geo home game console, including fan-favorites such as Fatal Fury, King of Fighters, King of Monsters and Metal Slug.
As stated in the press release…
The first 10 game titles on "NEOGEO Station" will be available on December 21, 2010 for the PS3 and will include "FATAL FURY", "METAL SLUG", and "THE KING OF FIGHTERS '94". "FATAL FURY" and "METAL SLUG" will also be available for the PSP on December 21. Continuing in 2011, SNK PLAYMORE USA will offer the PSP versions of the other eight game titles as well as a wide variety of other games that made the "NEOGEO" world-famous in the 90s.SNK’s Neo Geo console may not have fared as well in the console war against the SNES and Sega Genesis due to its high price, but when it came to gameplay, graphics and processing power, the Neo Geo ran countless circles around both Nintendo and Sega’s consoles. It’s nice to see that some of their lesser known library titles are being exposed to a whole new generation with budget-prices in tow.
In addition to bringing back these classics for the PSP and PS3, SNK has updated many of the games with multiplayer functionality to either support co-op or versus modes via online play, so friends and family can kick each other’s butts or kick butt together.
