Nintendo revealed that Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will get a demo prior to their launch. The demo will allow players to earn rewards for the full version of those games.
"This demo features gameplay that you won’t experience anywhere else," Nintendo says. "During the course of this adventure, you’ll be surprised to encounter familiar Pokémon that can now Mega Evolve! What’s more, you can bring this Pokémon into your full Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire game. You can even bring over the reward items that you obtained during your Special Demo Version adventure."
There's a good reason to try the demo more than once too. If you play every day, "special scenarios" will occur within the game.
Nintendo didn't reveal the release date for the demo today. However, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be out in just two months so we shouldn't have to wait too long for the free taste. In the meantime, check out the first screenshots of the demo in the gallery below.
Today's demo news was accompanied by a new trailer. The trailer shows off some of the more powerful Pokemon seen in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. For example, it confirms that the Legendary Rayquaza will be making a return. Rayquaza is a Dragon/Flying type who was central to the plot of Pokemon Emerald.
The gameplay trailer also includes battle footage of Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre, the Legendaries appearing on the cover of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Primal Groudon's most powerful ability is Desolate Land, which causes all Water-type moves from his opponent to fail. Primal Kyogre's equivalent ability is Primordial Seal, which makes any Fire-type attacks fizzle out. Both Pokemons' abilities prevent other weather-changing effects from working as well.
The trailer closed with quick looks at several Mega Evolutions. Mega Evolutions, introduced in Pokemon X and Y, boost the power of a Pokemon until the end of a battle. This transformation must be triggered using specific Mega Stones found throughout the Hoenn Region. The trailer reveals that Camerupt, Sharpedo and Gallade are among the Pokemon that will undergo Mega Evolutions in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
