One of the most memorable/annoying aspects of the Resident Evil games was the save system. Players had to scour the area for typewriters and save their game using a limited number of ink ribbons. No more, though.

And no, Resident Evil 5 won't just replace the typewriters with laptops or satellite phones. It'll have a completely different save system, according to RE5 producer Jun Takeuchi. Takeuchi told EGM that "the save system will be a combination of checkpoints and chapters."

The typewriter system did add some strategy or tension to the game but it really was awful in terms of convenience. You couldn't just, say, play for five minutes before you went out to dinner because you wouldn't want to waste an ink ribbon on that small amount of progress. As with any change to a franchise, though, this'll probably piss off a fanboy or two. As Judd Nelson would say: "B-O-O-H-O-O."
