Rock Band came out in Fall 2007 and Rock Band 2 came out in the Fall 2008. Should we pencil in Rock Band 3 for Fall 2009? Apparently not. Harmonix has no plans to release a new Rock Band this year.

During the "Digital Music Live" session at the Consumer Electronics Show yesterday, Harmonix co-founder and CEO Alex Rigopulos let everyone know that his company doesn't plan to shamelessly bilk you (again) by releasing a new and slightly improved Rock Band at the end of the year. “We’ve actually made a choice to break out of the annual release cycle for Rock Band this year,” said Rigopulos. “Partly because the annual cycle places limits on the choices you can make as a developer. We’re trying to take a long term view.”

Plus, they're busy making that Beatles music game. Rigopulos also expressed interest during the keynote in doing a similar project based on Led Zeppelin, a long-held fantasy of Blend Games staffer Rich Knight.
